Tijuca Forest
The tour for the National Park of Tijuca is an excellent option of leisure. The stroll is conducted by the gladness of the visitors admired with the songs of the birds, the jumps of monkeys and the laziness of the sloth’s movement that savor the seeds of the Embaúba tree.
The crystalline waterfalls embellish the tour that includes walking inside the Atlantic Wood (guided and of light level), where hundreds of species of fauna and flora are found.
The Forest calls the attention because of the immense bulk located in the heart of the city that is about few minutes of diverse neighborhoods. The Park, with an area of 32 km2, is formed by four main sectors: Forest of Tijuca (Sector); Paineiras, Corcovado and Park Lage(Sector B); Gávea Stone and Pretty Stone (Sector C) and Covanca and Pretos Forros (Sector D). Historical attractions and some nooks are visited: the Chinese View - privileged observation point of the city - and the Small Waterfall Taunay, where you can find a souvenir store, a rustic snack-bar and rest-room. Using to advantage, it is a stop of taking photos, to usufruct the easiness and more... to listen to the histories of the Empire Time, when in the Forest existed coffee plantations until 1845, and to listen the pioneer work of reforestation in Latin America made in 1861.
Then, the vehicle follows for the Mayrink Chapel, the Lake of Fairies and the Dam of Solitude. During the tour is possible to find a star-monkey and a sagüi-monkey, and nail-money and squirrels among others animals. The blue butterflies follow everything near from the tourists that still can attend to the spectacle of humming-birds, toucans and of hawks over flying the forest.
The return to the hotel is made by the Road of Canoes (Estrada das Canoas), following the elegant neighborhood of São Conrado and the edge of the beaches.
