Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro is located between the National Park of Tijuca and the Lagoon Rodrigo de Freitas. An area of approximately 1,45 km2 shelters some of the main species of Brazil and of the world-wide flora.
It started when D. João VI, 17º King of Portugal, in 1808, came to Rio de Janeiro. On that time, the Portuguese nobility left the country due to the Napoleonic war in Europe and, installed here, the seat of government.
In the same year of 1808 D. João created an Acclimatization Garden that gave origin to the current Botanical Garden. Today it has more than 8.200 species of plants. A stroll provides an unforgettable image of the Imperial Palms alleys, Brazil-Wood and Eucalyptus tree. Beyond the victoriae-regiae, the carnivore plant, the Bromeliads and the Orchids of this paradisiacal refuge place.
The songs of the birds and the creaking of the giant bamboos from Cochinchina - south region of the current Vietnam -, compose the music of the tour. Monkeys-nails give a spectacle when they congregate themselves on a Jack-fruit tree jumping from twig to twig disputing the fruit. Toucans fly observing the movement on the garden.
After this beautiful stroll in the Botanical Garden, the tour continues for the National Park of Tijuca that has 32 km2 and makes a stop on a privileged point with panoramic landscape of the city. From the Chinese View the tourist goes to be fascinated with the most beautiful postcards (Sugar Loaf and Corcovado). In the end of the tour, back to the hotel, the vehicle goes by the edge.
