Sugar Loaf Sugar Loaf Corcovado

Sugar Loaf with City Tour

If it was a cookery recipe, I would say that this tour is a combination of Sugar Loaf to the edges of the sea, with a handful of neighborhoods that tell different histories and draw a beautiful city with many charm. We still add a soup spoon full of contrasts reflected on the bays and lagoons and  a dense covering of Atlantic Wood.
Up 366m high, on the mount of Sugar Loaf, the visitor has a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro. The rock is of granite and it has an age superior than 600 million years. By ferry-cable car the tourists have two stops to ascent and two stops to descend.
This mount is a natural landmark. The peak of Sugar Loaf is on the entrance of the Guanabara Bay, being a visual reference to navigators who, from the sea or from air, look for this mount that is located in the periphery of the city.
This tour provides to the visitor to know the main points of  Rio. The Church of Candelária, that is situated in the financial center of the city, impresses for its external beauty. A façade of rocks that became attached manually, constructed in century XVIII, with doors done of bronze and, with an interior rich in black and white marble.
From Candelária to Metropolitan Cathedral, with have a stop to visit the Sambódromo. In modern style, of 1984, with bleachers of concrete, the place receives innumerable tourists who amuse themselves with the Samba Parades of Carnival. Returning to the clappers of the churches, the Metropolitan Cathedral was inaugurated around 1979, has 96m high and a capacity for 20 thousand people. The project - in form of cone, with apparent concrete - is of the architect Edgar Oliveira da Fonseca. The interior was projected by the priest Pablo Lachen Maier.
Cinelândia is another cultural reference enclosed in this tour with: the Municipal Theater, of 1909, inspired in Opera of Paris, of Charles Garnier; the National Library, of 1910,  in eclectic style, which mixes neoclassic elements and art nouveau; the Chamber of Councilmen, of 1920, in eclectic style; and the traditional Cine Odeon, of 1926, with a façade in form of Palace, with neoclassic elements, that in its interior has elements of art nouveau.
